ORMANERA Salice Salentino Riserva DOP
A powerful, oak-aged Riserva made from 100% Negroamaro.
The ORMANERA is a showpiece from the heel of the Italian boot. While many Salice Salentinos are blends, here they choose 100% Negroamaro, the king grape of the region. Because this is a Riserva, the wine has been aged extra long in French oak. The result is a complex, robust wine with the warmth of the Mediterranean sun and a velvety-soft finish.
This wine is known for its consistently top quality and regularly wins international awards.
- Vivino Score: ⭐ 4.1 / 5.0 (Very popular with wine lovers). “A textbook example of a good Salice Salentino: rich, spicy, and full.”
- Mundus Vini: 🥇 Winner of the Gold Medal.
- Berliner Wein Trophy: 🥇 Regularly awarded Gold.
- Luca Maroni: Consistently scores high (94+ points) thanks to the perfect fruit balance.
🍷 Flavor profile: A sensory journey to Puglia
The Ormanera is intense and complex, typical for a 'Riserva' from the south.
- Color: Deep ruby red with elegant garnet reflections (a sign of oak aging).
- Aroma: An explosion of aromas. Think ripe red fruit, complemented by spicy notes of cinnamon and tobacco. In the background, you smell the typical Macchia Mediterranea: wild sage and rosemary.
- Taste: On the palate it is round, robust, and full. The tannins are present but soft and well integrated. The finish is long and spicy.
🍽️ Wine & Food Pairings
This wine calls for flavorful dishes. It can handle powerful meat and spices well.
- Meat: Perfect with oven-roasted pork (arista), veal, or chicken with bell pepper.
- Game & Lamb: Excellent with lamb with fennel or thyme.
- Cheese: Delicious with aged, hard cheeses (such as Pecorino or aged Parmesan).
📝 Specifications & The Maker’s Secret
What makes this wine technically so good?
- Grape variety: 100% Negroamaro (harvested slightly overripe for extra sweetness and body).
- Origin: Cellino San Marco (Brindisi), the heart of the DOP Salice Salentino.
- Vinification: The grapes undergo a 'cryomaceration' (cold soaking) of 4 days to extract maximum fruit and color without harsh tannins.
- Oak aging: The wine ages 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels (barriques), followed by 6 months resting in the bottle.
- Serving temperature: Serve this wine at 16-18°C (decant/aerate beforehand if desired).
